'36 Hours' Kicks Off Aug. 17 on Travel Channel

Popular 'New York Times' feature gets adapted to series form, coming Aug. 17.

Travel Channel has set Monday, Aug. 17, at 8 p.m. as the time to start the clock on 36 Hours, a new series adapted from the popular travel column in The New York Times and first announced in April. The co-hosts are chef Kristen Kish (pictured) and former U.S. soccer player (and TV commentator) Kyle Martino. They go into a new city each week and have a weekend to meet insiders to point them to the best places to eat and have fun and see the sights. There are six one-hour episodes, with a presenting sponsor in Land Rover.

 

"I've always wanted to travel so I could eat the food, meet the makers and allow myself to discover all the culinary brilliance a city has to offer. This is my inspiration, my living cookbook,” Kish (pictured) said in a release.

 

Said Martino, also in the release: “I chased a soccer ball around the globe for nearly two decades, now I'm on the road once again. But this time eating, drinking and laughing my way through some of the world’s greatest cities with my good friend and Top Chef Kristen Kish.”

 

The first episode is in Berlin, Germany, and includes graffiti artists, “backstage access to Berlin's wildest stage performance” and visits to innovative restaurants in the unified city. Other cities in the series: Barcelona; Boston; Istanbul; Nashville and Portland, Ore. Companion editorial and video material will be on NYTimes.com and Travel Channel digital properties.

 

The 36 Hours show page on TravelChannel.com will have material such as on-scene videos, blogs and travel guides. 

 

Land Rover created exclusive co-branded content, “celebrating off-the-beaten-path adventures outside city limits featuring Kish and Martino,” that will run across Travel Channel and Land Rover owned and operated platforms, the Scripps Networks outlet said. Mindshare, media agency for Land Rover, brought the syndicated content relationship together, the network said.

 

36 Hours is produced by Bungalow Media + Entertainment.
