GlobeCast Americas Hires Discovery's Palmer As CTO

GlobeCast Americas named Bart Palmer, formerly head of global media engineering for Discovery Communications, to the newly created position of chief technology officer.

Palmer, whose will join the company effective Jan. 2, 2012, will report to GlobeCast Americas CEO Lisa Coelho. Palmer will be responsible for the company's overall technical strategy as well as managing, deploying and developing GlobeCast's technical facilities and satellite and terrestrial infrastructure.

A 30-year industry veteran, Palmer has served in senior management positions with Liberty Sports, Fox Sports, and MediaComm, and was part of the team that originated Home Sports Entertainment, one of the first regional sports networks.

"I'm excited to become a part of GlobeCast's expansion in the Americas," Palmer said in a statement. "The company's local presence in key broadcast markets around the world and its global network provide enormous potential for growth, especially in the new multiscreen environment. GlobeCast knows that its technology and facilities need to keep up with -- and even stay ahead of -- the market requirements in this new world, so I'm glad to lead that charge."

GlobeCast is a subsidiary of France Telecom/Orange. The company provides media management and global content delivery services for broadcasters and content creators, including on-site service from news and sporting events around the world.
