Alpha Technologies Chases Down Cheetah

Alpha Technologies, a vendor that specializes in power solutions for cable operators and other service providers, said it has acquired Cheetah Technologies, a Pittsburgh, Pa.-based maker of network monitoring hardware and software.

Financial terms weren’t disclosed, but Alpha said it and Cheetah service similar markets and have mutual customers. They also have an extended history, having collaborated in outside plant power supply monitoring deployments going back “several decades,” according to the companies. Cheetah makes testing and management gear and software for optical networks and power supplies, and products aimed at boosting network performance.

Alpha said it will continue to operate Cheetah’s Pittsburgh facility.

Update:22 employees from Cheetah are joining Alpha.

“We are excited to welcome the Cheetah team, its core products and its expanding network quality assurance product portfolio to the Alpha Group and look forward to providing more leading edge network management solutions to Alpha’s global customer base,” said Drew Zogby, president of Alpha Technologies, in a statement.
