Arris, Colubris Team Up on Wi-Fi

Colubris Networks has reached a sales, marketing and support agreement with Arris Group Inc.’s Arris TeleWire Supply unit.

TeleWire will offer value-added product, integration and support services that span Colubris’ entire product line, which enables MSOs and other broadband providers to easily launch Wi-Fi services.

"A key motivator for cable MSOs is to leverage existing infrastructure to drive new revenue services," TeleWire president Bob Puccini said in a prepared statement. "Wi-Fi-enabled hotspots and business services are a natural extension of these networks, offering a solution that requires minimal time and investment to generate new commercial-service revenues."

TeleWire also announced an agreement to market high-speed-data networking equipment developed by coaXmedia Inc. to cable operators.

coaXmedia is a developer and provider of data-transport technology for the hospitality and multiple-dwelling-unit industries. Its system permits the delivery of up to 36 megabits per second downstream and 12 mbps-24 mbps upstream over nonbroadcast frequencies, using existing in-building cable and backhaul connections selected by the hotel or MDU operator.

And TeleWire will distribute Arcwave's “ARCXtend” fixed wireless Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification solution to cable operators under another deal announced Tuesday.
