Arris Lands Liwest Deal

Arris’s new flagship cable access product – the E6000 Converged Edge Router --  stayed on a roll with word that Liwest Kabelmedien of Austria will tap the platform to help the MSO boost broadband speeds.

Liwest said it will use E6000 to support a 250 Mbps (downstream) cable modem tier, with an eye toward 1 Gbps. Liwest is pairing the E6000 with the Arris TG682, a DOCSIS 3.0 cable modem/gateway.

The E6000 is currently shipping as a high-density cable modem termination system (CMTS), though Arris plans to add edge QAM capabilities later that, when incorporated, will turn the device into a fully-fledged Converged Cable Access Platform.

The latest win for Arris comes as revenues for CCAP-pointing gear jumped 177% in the first quarter, according to Infonetics Research.  Among individual vendors, Arris led the way with 37% of revenues for combined CMTS, edge QAM and CCAP-based products, followed by Cisco Systems’ 32%, Casa Systems’ 21%, and Harmonic’s 7%.

Arris said the E6000 was deployed in systems reaching more than 5 million subscribers by the end of the first quarter, up from 2 million at the end of 2013.
