Casa Systems Builds Wireless Annex

Casa Systems, a vendor that has specialized in wired cable access technologies, is using this week’s Mobile World Congress confab in Barcelona to demonstrate MobileEdge, the company's first wireless-facing platform.

Among its features, MobileEdge is capable of integrating multiple licensed WiFi and multi-mode access services on a common platform.

“Casa Systems continues to aggressively innovate and deliver market leading solutions as demonstrated by the announcement of our new MobileEdge solution,” said Casa Systems founder and CEO Jerry Guo, in a statement. “We are leveraging our long and successful experience as a leader in fixed broadband technologies and applying it to the mobile space,”

As Casa execs explained to Multichannel News last month (subscription required), the company’s mobile product strategy centers on WiFi/small cell and wireless backhaul hardware and software for MSOs and wireless service providers.

Casa’s core business remains cable access network technologies, including cable modem termination systems and converged cable access platforms, but the vendor started to pursue adjacent wireless opportunities in 2012.

According to the company, it launched wireless trials with two operators in Asia and one in Europe in the second half of last year, and it is engaged with about 10 more operators.
