Lucent Technologies said its shareholders “overwhelmingly approved” the company’s merger with Alcatel, originally announced April 2.

Lucent added that final results of the shareowner vote will be disclosed in an upcoming filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

On Aug. 23, Lucent filed a formal notice with the U.S. Committee on Foreign Investment (CFIUS) seeking approval of its $10.4 billion purchase of the French company (www.multichannel.com/article/CA6365328.html).

“We are another step closer to creating the first truly global communications-solutions provider with the broadest wireless, wireline and services portfolio in the industry,” Lucent chairman and CEO Patricia Russo said in a prepared statement.
