NAB: Elemental Meshes With Ericsson

Multiscreen video software specialist Elemental Technologies said its video processing software has been integrated into the Ericsson Virtualized Encoding solution, a deal that ties into Elemental's new "software-defined video' initiative.

Announced earlier this year, Ericsson Virtualized Encoding is designed to utilize multiple encoding recourses regardless of the platform.

“The integration of Elemental solutions into the Ericsson platform will help enable pay TV operators, content owners, broadcasters and sports programmers to transform their traditional TV businesses into multiscreen successes across the globe,” Elemental CEO Sam Blackman said, in a statement.

Separately, Elemental, as part of its SDV push, announced that its video processing software runs on multiple processing architectures including appliances, blade solutions, virtual machines and the cloud.

The expansion, which should open up Elemental’s addressable market, means Elemental’s platform now reaches beyond GPU-based systems, where it originally focused its efforts, explained Keith Wymbs, Elemental’s chief marketing officer.

The expanded approach ensures that Elemental’s video processing software can also support smaller deployments with lower channel counts, he said.

lemental’s customer roster includes HBO, the BBC, ESPN, ABC News, CBS Interactive and Comcast, among others.
