NBCU Forms Centralized Media Distribution Group

NBC Universal has formed the Media Distribution Services group, which will be dedicated to operations and technology support for the distribution of content across all of the programmer's platforms.

NBC Universal Media Distribution Services, a new group in the company’s Media Works organization, will bring together broadcast and cable distribution, on-air execution for live programming, technical services, film and electronic editing, internal post production, vault services and film preservation, and title management.

Executive vice president Ian Trombley will lead the group, reporting to NBC Television Network Media Works president and CIO John Eck. Previously, Trombley was senior vice president of NBCU's Broadcast Operations Group responsible for distribution of the network’s broadcasts and its 10 owned-and-operated stations, as well as the cable properties, including the USA Network, Sci-Fi Channel, Bravo, Sleuth, Universal HD and CNBC.

“This alignment will bring cutting-edge technology, state-of-the-art operations and industry expertise together under one roof, and I’m proud to have Ian spearhead this initiative,” Eck said, in a statement.
