Pa. to Leave VoIP Alone

The Pennsylvania Public Utilities Commission voted 5-0 Thursday to refrain from regulating voice-over-Internet-protocol services.

The commission said it would monitor developments at the Federal Communications Commission before acting.

VoIP provider Vonage Holdings Corp. applauded the decision.

“We urge other states to follow the bold leadership of Florida, Colorado and, now, Pennsylvania to foster competition through a wait-and-see approach to regulation, enabling the FCC and Congress to do their respective jobs before any premature conclusions can be drawn at the state level,” chairman and CEO Jeffrey A. Citron said in a prepared statement.
