Shrewsbury Taps N2, Broadbus for VOD

Shrewsbury Electric and Cable (SELCO) in Shrewsbury, Mass., is using N2 Broadband Inc.'s “OpenStream” digital-services platform and Broadbus Technologies Inc. servers for its video-on-demand rollout.

The municipality plans to roll out VOD in late spring to its 12,000 subscribers.

Broadbus is supplying its “B-1” video server. The billing and subscriber-management software is being supplied by Great Lakes Data Systems. Both products will be integrated with N2's OpenStream and operations-support system.

N2 said Shrewsbury is the first cable operator to deploy its "Any Stream, Anywhere" capabilities, using N2's software and Scientific-Atlanta Inc.'s gigabyte-quadrature-amplitude-modulation switched network.

"This switched-network flexibility will help us to save money -- both capital and operational expenses -- by optimizing the utilization of our streaming capacity among all of our service groups," SELCO general manager Thomas Josie said in a prepared statement.
