Tektronix to Acquire Minacom

Communications test-service provider Tektronix signed an agreement to acquire Minacom, a supplier of active probe tests used by telecommunications carriers, cable operators, wireless providers and voice-over-Internet-protocol providers.

The asset purchase of roughly $27 million is expected to close within 30 days. Tektronix does not expect the deal to impact its financial results for the fiscal year.

“This acquisition will enable Tektronix to offer both active and passive probing capabilities for modern and legacy networks," said Rich McBee, senior vice president and general manager of Tektronix Communications Business.

“The integration of these products into one solution will accelerate delivery of our product road maps in key areas such as IP voice, video and data services, and for access and edge-network service management,” he added. “Additionally, Minacom's respected leadership position with cable MSOs for active VoIP testing will provide direct access to a new market segment for Tektronix's monitoring business.”

Montreal-based Minacom has 35 employees, all of whom will be incorporated within Tektronix. Minacom operates in 30 countries worldwide.
