TI, Intellon Team Up on Triple-Play Chips

Texas Instruments and Intellon, which makes chips for power-line-based home networking, announced a collaboration Wednesday to jointly develop and market residential-gateway reference designs for distributing data, voice and multimedia content within a home.

The joint reference designs will be based on TI's UR8 architecture, which supports asymmetric digital subscriber line and very-high-bit-rate DSL 2 (VDSL2) standards, and they will include Intellon's INT6000 power-line integrated circuit, which can allow multiple HD video streams to be distributed over in-home power wiring, coaxial cable or other wiring.
