TVN Taps Widevine

9/02/2004 1:22 PM Eastern

TVN Entertainment Corp. said it will use content-security solutions from Widevine Technologies to provide secure delivering of video-on-demand assets to its affiliates.

TVN will use Widevine's Cypher Virtual SmartCard for persistent encryption of programming from content provider to docking station. With the Widevine technology present in the headend, it would be able to offer cable operators persistent encryption from headend to a subscriber's set-top.
"Widevine's persistent encryption solution provides a high level of security that has been endorsed by content providers including studios and broadcasters," said Brian Baker, president and CEO of Widevine.
TVN executives said that with real-time encoding of VOD content and possible earlier distribution windows an added layer of security was needed.
In other VOD news, Kasenna said it was awarded three more patents, relating to media stream indexing and storage support.
