Vubiquity Nears Launch Of ‘Digital Storefront’

Vubiquity will use The Independent Show next week to debut a customizable “Digital Storefront” that enables pay-TV partners to offer a variety of video services, including electronic sell-through (EST) offerings, to set-tops and mobile devices.

The debut comes soon after Vubiquity obtained some key storefront capabilities via its acquisition of U.K.-based VOD content aggregation company FilmFlex Movies Ltd., a former joint venture of Sony Pictures Television and The Walt Disney Company. The storefront hasn't gone live in the U.S. yet, but several U.K. partners, Virgin Media, EE, Talk Talk and Film4, have previously tapped into it.

Vubiquity will power the new Digital Storefront with AnyVU Cloud, a multiscreen video platform it  introduced in April. Initial tech partners for AnyVU Cloud include Akamai Technologies (for the content delivery network), Mediamorph (rights management), and BeBanjo (VOD scheduling).

Vubiquity is using the resulting platform to offer a suite of modular multiplatform video services, including linear TV streaming, subscription VOD, and EST, and movies and TV shows that support the Ultraviolet digital locker system.

“Because AnyVU Cloud is offered as a modular service, our customers can choose an end-to-end solution, or just the pieces they need to round out their offering. Our aim is to provide the most efficient solution that helps our customers bring new services to market quickly, and effectively compete in a TV Everywhere world,” said Anupam Gupta, Vubiquity’s EVP of cloud services, in a statement.
