Verizon Bows iPad, iPhone Apps For FiOS 'Flex View' VOD Service9/16/2011 2:35 PM Eastern
Verizon this week released free apps for Apple's iPad, iPhone and iPod touch devices that let FiOS TV customers access movies and TV shows rented or purchased through its Flex View multiplatform video-on-demand service.
The telco also has introduced a feature that gives subscribers up to 32 Gigabytes of network-based storage for personal videos, photos and music, which can then be accessed via the Flex View service.
Flex View offers FiOS customers more than 4,400 movies and TV shows for rent or purchase viewable on TV, PCs and mobile devices. That's up from about 2,300 titles in April.
The iPad and iPhone apps were released Tuesday, Sept. 13, through the iTunes App Store.
Verizon introduced Flex View last November, with support for Apple devices noticeably absent. The service lets users watch titles on any combination of up to four devices, plus through their FiOS TV set-top box.
Currently Flex View content is available only to FiOS customers. At some point, the telco plans to open up the service to let anyone rent or buy movies and TV shows, Verizon Communications senior programming executive Lynch said at the B&C/Multichannel News On Demand Summit in May.
To upload personal media, Verizon customers may use the FiOS Media Manager software for Windows or Mac, Media Manager Online or Media Manager for Android devices.
