Epix is expanding its TV Everywhere footprint, inking a deal with Sony Computer Entertainment to let subscribers access 3,000-plus movies and other titles via the PlayStation3 and PlayStation Vita game systems -- the first TV network to bring authenticated app to the PS3.

The Epix app on the PlayStation3 system will launch during the first quarter of 2013, with an app for the handheld PS Vita to follow in the spring. Those will be available to PlayStation Network members in the U.S. as a free download.

Epix, a joint venture of Viacom’s Paramount Pictures, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios and Lionsgate, available to 30 million homes nationwide through distribution partners including Charter Communications, Cox Communications, Dish Network, Mediacom Communications, NCTC, Suddenlink Communications and Verizon FiOS.

Content available through the PlayStation platforms will include new releases such as Mission: Impossible-Ghost Protocol, The Hunger Games and Thor and Epix original programming including concert, comedy and sporting events.

Epix boasts that it was the first premium network to launch on Microsoft’s Xbox consoles, Android devices and Roku players -- beating HBO, which also now provides its HBO Go service on those platforms. Epix’s TV Everywhere service also is available to subscribers several hundred other devices including Apple iPads and iPhones, and Samsung Smart TVs and Blu-ray players.

“We’re thrilled to join forces with Sony Computer Entertainment to offer subscribers a unique and unparalleled experience. This is another important step in our mission to provide the best content in every way consumers want it, creating better entertainment experiences using our premium content, and by working with technology partners and our distribution partners,” Epix CEO and president Mark Greenberg said in a statement.

Dish senior vice president of programming Dave Shull commented, “We’ve partnered with Epix to deliver high-quality programming to Dish customers online and through Dish-branded mobile and tablet apps. A leader in authenticated multiplatform delivery, Epix has established an innovative agreement with PlayStation that provides yet another outlet for our customers to access its excellent movie content.”
