Sling Media has optimized its app for the popular TV-connected Google Chromecast streaming adapter

Gaining another big screen outlet, Sling Media said it has extended support for the Google Chromecast streaming adapter via its family of Slingplayer apps for iPhone, iPad and Android phone, and  will add Android-powered tablets to the list “very soon.”

Sling Media integration of a “Cast” icon on its Slingplayer app also lets users fling live TV streams to Roku boxes, freeing them up to use their mobile device for other things. The Apple TV is also on the list of Sling-supported video streamers.

“We feel this will present a simple, but powerful solution for our Sling customers who want to watch on multiple home TVs without setting up more than one set-top box, or would like to use Sling to watch their home content on a TV in a hotel, vacation home, office or anywhere else,” Sling Media noted in this blog post.

Support for the HDMI-connected Chromecast comes about two months after Sling Media introduced a new entry-level product, the $149.99 Slingbox M1, and upgraded and relaunched its high-end ($299.99) model under the SlingTV label. Sling Media noted that the Chromecast works in conjunction with the M1 and  SlingTV, as well as its older 350 and 500 video place-shifting models.

Sling Media added that it has also integrated a SlingTV remote into the app that lets users control the SlingTV interface on the main TV,  something they can use in lieu of using the remote control that ships with the device.

Elsewhere in Chromecast-land, Google recently beefed up its menu of “featured” apps that are optimized for its $35 streaming dongle with the addition of the authenticated WATCH Disney, WATCH Disney XD and WATCH Disney Junior offerings. Other video-focused apps on that list include Twitch, WatchESPN, Netflix, HBO Go, Hulu Plus, Pandora, YouTube, Crackle, and MLB.TV, among others.
