Verizon Picks Motorola Video Gear

10/26/2004 3:39 AM Eastern

Motorola Inc. will provide Verizon Communications with video-network infrastructure and video consumer-premises equipment under a multiyear agreement announced Tuesday.

Motorola will also provide project-integration and operational services for Verizon's launch of video services on its new fiber-to-the-premises network next year.

Verizon announced nine new markets where it is deploying its FTTP technology last week, and the company said it will pass some 1 million homes and businesses with the new network this year, in parts of nine states, doubling its FTTP deployment in 2005 and launching its first video services.

“We currently deliver voice and high-speed data over this new network, and the available bandwidth that fiber provides makes the addition of video services the next logical step,” Verizon network-services group president Paul Lacouture said in a prepared statement.
