Pennsylvania, Indiana on FiOS TV’s Agenda
Verizon Communications said it is close to completing franchise agreements with the North Hills Council of Governments and a group of four South Hills communities, which would enable it to offer its FiOS TV service in 19 Pennsylvania municipalities.
The telco said each municipality must now review and approve the franchise agreement -- a process that has started in several communities.
FiOS TV also launched in Fort Wayne, New Haven and Huntertown, Ind., where it will compete with Comcast.

An Orca Sighting in the U.S.
Orca Interactive announced its entry into the U.S. market, with Texas competitive local-exchange carrier W.T. Services marking its first customer.
W.T. will use Orca’s RiGHTv middleware to power integrated, carrier-grade IPTV services including live TV, pay-per-view and video-on-demand.
Orca added that it will open an office on the U.S. West Coast during the third quarter. W.T., a wholly-owned subsidiary of West Texas Rural Telephone Cooperative, is a CLEC in the Texas communities of Friona and Bovina.

Endavo Media, GDB Join Forces
Global Digital Broadcast will market Endavo Media and Communications’ online delivery platforms to its IPTV customers under terms of a deal announced last week. In exchange, Endavo will offer GDB's IPTV set-top-box solution to television-channel owners and programmers seeking alternative distribution.
The two companies said they are already in joint talks with multiple independent channel and content owners regarding the integrated strategy, which will represent significant new sources of revenue for both companies.

UTStarcom to Climb Great Wall
China Telecom will deploy UTStarcom’s RollingStream end-to-end IPTV solution a new commercial network in China's Ningxia Hui autonomous region.
The two companies said the initial deployment -- which has the capacity to support 10,000 subscribers -- will offer 52 live broadcast television channels, 48-hour time-shifting capabilities, 3,000 hours of video-on-demand content and services including karaoke, online gaming, TV-based short-messaging service and other interactive applications.
