- EchoStar To Launch DBS Service in Mexico
EchoStar and MVS Comunicaciones, one of the largest media and telecommunications conglomerates in Mexico, are forming a joint venture called Dish Mexico that will launch “Dish,” an affordable satellite TV service that will be available to consumers across that nation, officials said Tuesday. The direct-to-home satellite TV service will deliver a wide variety of audio and video channels in an all-digital format. The service will be delivered via an EchoStar-provided high-powered direct broadcast satellite allowing the service to reach beyond mountains and buildings to provide affordable video options for consumers across the entire country. - De la Hoya-Pacquiao Fight to Attract Fewer Pay-Per-View Buys than Past Fights
The Los Angeles Times is reporting that, given the current economic downturn, the Dec. 6 fight between Oscar de la Hoya and Manny Pacquiao is expected to attract fewer viewers for HBO than previous de la Hoya encounters. According to an article this week, Top Rank, the Las Vegas-based boxing promotion company that handles Pacquiao, is projecting the fight will attract only 1.5 million pay-per-view buys. This compares to 2.4 million pay-per-view buys, worth $134.4 million, purchased when De la Hoya fought against Floyd Mayweather Jr. in May 2007. more » » »

Victor Nieblas, a California immigration attorney, has been tapped as host of Inmigración 411, a new weekly series on HITN, offering Spanish-language immigration advice to U.S. Hispanics. In addition to the TV show, which premiered Nov. 19, Nieblas will provide answers on the network’s Web site www.HITN.tv
Carmen Dominicci, the Puerto Rico-born journalists and TV presenter, has left Univision Communications after six years. Dominicci had co-hosted the popular Primer Impacto daily news and variety show and hosted the short-lived talent search series Misión: Reportar. The network declined to elaborate on her departure. |
