Rigases Report to Jail
Former Adelphia chairman John Rigas and his son former Adelphia CFO Timothy Rigas reported to Butner Federal Prison in North Carolina Aug. 13, more than two years after their sentencing and three years after their convictions on federal fraud and conspiracy charges. The Rigases had been released on their own recognizance pending appeal. Their appeal in the 2nd U.S. Circuit court of Appeals in Manhattan was rejected in May. Although the Rigases have said they plan to appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court, U.S. District Court Judge Leonard Sand, who sentenced the two in June 2005 to 15 years and 20 years respectively, said last month that it was time for the two to begin paying their debt to society

This past Sunday’s episode of The History Channel’s Ice Road Truckers was the most-watched cable program of the evening, delivering 3.9 million viewers in the 10 p.m. time slot. Ice Road Truckers posted a 2.7 household rating in the 10 p.m. (ET/PT) slot, according to Nielsen Media Research data.

Cities Eye Cable System Buy
The board of commissioners of Mecklenberg County, N.C. were scheduled to decide Tuesday night whether to join two neighboring cities in their plans to buy the local cable systems once owned by Adelphia Communications and now operated by Time Warner Cable.

Disney Wins Weekly Primetime
For the fifth week running, Disney Channel scored the top spot in the primetime ratings. During the week of Aug. 6 through 12, Disney Channel averaged a 2.4 household rating in primetime, with its hit shows Hannah Montana and The Suite Life of Zack & Cody, as well as the theatricals Ella Enchanted and Finding Nemo, helping to drive its success.

HBO Cancels John From Cincinnati
David Milch won’t be hanging 10 with John From Cincinnati anymore. Home Box Office has canceled Milch’s show about a dysfunctional surfing family in Imperial Beach, Calif. and the array of quirky figures, headed by the mysterious title character (Austin Nichols), intertwined with their lives. During its 10-episode premieres, John, which Milch co-created with author Kem Nunn, averaged 1.6 million viewers, according to Nielsen Media Research data. No word yet about the fate of fellow rookie series Flight of the Conchords, as the comedy about a pair of New Zealand musicians has picked up a solid following among young male viewers.
