Nicktoons Launches Sports-Themed Programming Block

Nickelodeon is making a play for young athletes and fans with the introduction of its new weekly programming block NickSports. The two-hour block, which will air Wednesdays from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. E.T. on Nicktoons, was created as a result of the network’s partnerships with the NFL, MLS and NASCAR.

Each of those leagues will provide content to Nickelodeon, such as NFL Film’s animated series NFL Rush Zone and NASCAR’s 4-episode docu-series Hammer Down. The MLS will provide short-form content, including an MLS Insider episode focusing on Thierry Henry and other short-form series such as Anatomy of a Goal, GoalKeeper Trick Shots and MLS Top 5.

The block will also feature original Nicktoons series such as the Rob Dyrdek-created animated skateboarding comedy Wild Grinders.

The network also plans to air feature films during future installments of the programming block, including titles such as Space Jam, Cool Runnings and Speed Racer. Little Ballers, a feature-length documentary about the Amateur Athletic Union, will also make its TV premiere during the NickSports block.

NickSports will make its debut on Wednesday, September 3 at 9 p.m. E.T.
