ABC Family will look to add to its lineup of successful scripted series with the greenlighting of three new pilots scheduled to go into production this fall.
Among the new series include a one-hour drama Nine Lives, which followsw a teen with heightened abilities who finds that she's being pursued by human assassins. Dan Berendsen (Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Hannah Montana: The Movie) will serve as executive producer and writer for the one hour scripted drama.
Switched at Birth, a one-hour scripted drama executively produced by Lizzy Weiss (Blue Crush) tells the story of two teen girls who discover that they were accidentally switched at birth; while Strut, another one-hour scripted drama, revolves around a showgirl named Roxy who marries a stranger after a wild evening and finds herself living in a small town in Texas and reinventing the high school's struggling drill team.
Sources also said the network is working on a fourth series, The Lying Game based on the upcoming book series of the same name about a sister who sets out to find her missing identical twin.
The pilots follow the successful debut of this past summer of freshman series drama Pretty Little Liars and comedy Mellissa & Joey, as well as returning series Make It Or Break It and The Secret Life Of An American Teenager.
"We want to continue to concentrate on programming that speaks to our Millennial viewers," said Kate Juergens, executive vice president, Original Programming & Development, ABC Family in a statement. "These pilots offer a great mix of heartfelt and compelling storytelling that our audience has come to expect from us."
