AT&T Breaks Million Milestone

11/26/2000 7:00 PM Eastern

SAN FRANCISCO -AT&T Broadband earlier this month said it became the first MSO to breach the 1 million cable-modem-subscriber barrier when it hooked up a family in the Bay area. That lucky couple, Gerry and Arlene Balot, was rewarded with a free year of AT&T@Home service, a new Gateway Inc. computer and a cable modem.

The MSO said it is now on track to meet its year-end goal of 1.1 million high-speed customers.

On the phone front, the company said last month that it had surpassed the 400,000-customer mark for its cable-telephony service.
