Animal Planet Rescue Helps Cause

The Animal Planet Rescue vehicle detoured from its planned tour last week due
to the World Trade Center tragedy in Manhattan.

Representatives of the American Humane Association -- partner in the rescue
vehicle with Animal Planet -- contacted the American Society for the Prevention
of Cruelty to Animals in New York early last week to offer assistance in caring
for and treating pets hurt or lost in the neighborhoods near the devastation, a
Discovery Networks U.S. spokeswoman said.

Given the OK by the government agencies in the area, the ASPCA told Animal
Planet Rescue to stay on standby in nearby Edison, N.J., as of last Thursday,
she said.

On Sunday morning, the vehicle entered the Manhattan disaster area to serve
as the ASPCA's communications base, and by that evening, it also became the
command post for the New York Police Department's K-9 unit, the spokeswoman said

However, because the authorities plan to shrink the 'Ground Zero' area,
accessible only by government agencies, she added that the rescue vehicle will
be asked to leave shortly, probably by Tuesday morning at the
