Movielink and the Sundance Deal12/04/2003 6:06 AM Eastern
Online movie-download service Movielink LLC (www.movielink.com) has signed a deal with Sundance Channel for the rights to a selection of its independent films.
The agreement gives Movielink the rights to make available for download films distributed as part of the "Sundance Film Series," the network’s newly formed theatrical releasing entity, and the "Sundance Channel Home Entertainment" catalog.
In addition, Movielink will create a Sundance-branded area on the service, featuring titles from Movielink's library of independent films that will be chosen by Sundance each week.
After downloading movies from Movielink, customers can store them for up to 30 days. Once play is initiated, they can watch a movie as many times as they would like in a 24-hour period. Downloads range between $1.99-$4.99.
The first Sundance Channel Home Entertainment titles to be available on Movielink include The Sleepy Time Gal, starring Jacqueline Bissett, Martha Plimpton and Nick Stahl; Amy's O, directed by and starring Julie Davis; Scotland, PA, starring James Le Gros, Maura Tierney and Christopher Walken; The Slaughter Rule, starring Ryan Gosling, Clea DuVall and David Morse; Hired Hand, a 1971 rerelease starring Peter Fonda; and Searching for Paradise, starring Chris Noth, Susan May Pratt and Jeremy Davies.
