DirecTV Still Targeting Cablevision Subs

3/17/2003 3:29 AM Eastern

DirecTV Inc. said it will continue to step up pressure on Cablevision Systems
Corp. following the MSO's interim deal last week to carry Leo J. Hindery Jr.'s
Yankees Entertainment & Sports Network.

DirecTV -- which has tried to lure Cablevision subscribers with a programming
package that includes YES -- said it may tweak its current offer of a free,
two-room satellite install to subscribers who sign up between March 10 and April
30.

During March and April 2002, the direct-broadcast satellite provider said it
saw a 188 percent increase in subscriber growth within Cablevision's footprint
in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.

"We still feel there is certain residual animosity toward Cablevision, and we
believe those customers will continue to respond to the offer we have in the
marketplace," DirecTV spokesman Robert Mercer said.

"We are the leader in the clubhouse when it comes to price and value," he
added.
