CTAM U Goes Ivy League

2/13/2001 9:48 AM Eastern

The Cable & Telecommunications Association for Marketing announced
Tuesday that its next class of CTAM University will meet at Harvard Business
School from June 18 through 23.

The past three CTAM U courses had been held at Northwestern University in
suburban Chicago.

According to CTAM president Char Beales, the move was made to address
concerns from former students who advised the CTAM Educational Foundation that
one way to make the course more constructive was to make it more specific to the
cable industry.

'We know that the industry needs world-class marketing education to be more
competitive,' Beales said, 'but we think it will be more relevant if it's
industry-specific, and we know Harvard will do that.'

Tom Eisenmann, assistant professor at Harvard Business School, will serve as
faculty chair for CTAM U.

A former cable and media insider, Eisenmann returned to Harvard in the
mid-1990s to get his doctorate degree. His dissertation focused on why some
cable companies got bigger in the 1990s, while others got out of the business
altogether.

Several cable-specific case studies developed by Harvard professors will be
used in the CTAM U course, including ones on BET.com, Cox Communications Inc. and the former
Tele-Communications Inc.
