Explorer Moving to CNBC

11/01/1998 7:00 PM Eastern

New York – National Geographic Television's Explorer
magazine series is moving from TBS Superstation to CNBC next September, officials said
last week.

The switch is an extension of the joint business venture
between NBC and NGT, which are partners in the global development of The National
Geographic Channel Worldwide.

Explorer, the longest-running documentary series on
cable, has won more than 400 awards, including 34 Emmy Awards and 12 CableACE Awards. NGT
will produce 48 new episodes per year of the series for CNBC in a long-term agreement.

"TBS Superstation has been a great home for Explorer,"
NGT president Tim Kelly said, in a prepared statement, "and we look forward to
continuing to work with Turner [Broadcasting System Inc.] and Time Warner [Inc.] on other
projects. Our strategic alliance with NBC, and the easy fit of our Explorer show
with the increasingly popular nonfiction programming on CNBC, made this shift a natural
evolution."
