Animal Planet Sets Wild Record

Animal Planet set network primetime-household and demographic-ratings records
New Year's Day with its two-hour special, The Future Is Wild.

The show, which used computer-generated images to depict how Earth might look
millions of years from now, earned a 2.24 household rating from 8 p.m. to 10
p.m. Jan. 1. The program also attracted 1.5 million viewers aged 25 through 54,
according to Nielsen Media Research data.

The special beat out last August's premiere of film The Retrievers on
the household front and topped a 1999 installment of The Croc Hunter on
the demo side.

Those performances also marked 195 percent and 244 percent improvements from
the same time slot Jan. 1, 2002, Animal Planet officials said.
