CNN Hires `Eligible' Correspondent

4/18/2001 4:50 PM Eastern

Cable News Network said Wednesday that it hired Dr. Sanjay Gupta as medical
correspondent.

The all-news network noted in the announcement that in addition to his
background as a neurosurgeon, Gupta was one of People magazine's most
eligible bachelors in 2000.

Gupta will be a regular contributor to the network's weekend Your
Health
program. He'll also join the neurosurgery department at Atlanta's
Emory University, CNN said.

Gupta joins CNN medical correspondents Rhonda Rowland and Elizabeth Cohen.
Former medical correspondent Eileen O'Connor is now a national correspondent,
and former medical correspondent Holly Firfer is freelancing for CNN Headline
News, a spokeswoman said.

Gupta was most recently a neurosurgeon at the University of Tennessee's
Semmes-Murphy Clinic, and he worked earlier at the University of Michigan
Medical Center.

Dr. Gupta replaces Dr. Steve Salvatore, who left CNN last
summer.
