Greenfield to Replace Spin Room5/21/2001 12:50 PM Eastern
Cable News Network canceled The Spin Room Friday after it ran on the
network for seven months, and it plans to replace the program June 4 with
Greenfield at Large, hosted by its senior analyst, Jeff Greenfield.
CNN general manager Sid Bedingfield said Monday that there was nothing wrong
with The Spin Room, which averaged about a 0.5 Nielsen Media Research
rating. But he added that the network wanted to focus on its Crossfire
program, to which both Spin Room hosts, Tucker Carlson and Bill Press,
Greenfield Reports, which will run weeknights at 10:30 p.m., will see
Greenfield interview celebrities and report on major trends and stories of the
day, Bedingfield said.
One of the first guests will be sportscaster Bob Costas, Bedingfield said,
adding, 'It will be a broad and diverse and interesting group, but there will be
experts on particular subjects.'
The move expands CNN's strategy in the past year of adding personality-driven
news programming to its schedule. Other additions in the past several months
include Wolf Blitzer Reports at 8 p.m. and The Point with Greta Van
Susteren at 10 p.m.
