Microsoft TV Lands Oregon IPG Deals12/06/2002 5:05 AM Eastern
Microsoft Corp.'s struggling interactive-TV division scored a modest victory
with an announcement that it will deploy its interactive programming guide to a
pair of Oregon cable systems.
Microsoft TV will roll out its IPG to digital-TV subscribers of Uvision LLC
and Willamette Broadband LLC, two cable operations serving 20,000 customers in
Canby, Woodburn, Stayton and Sheridan, Ore., an area just south of Portland.
"Microsoft TV IPG allows us to provide consumers a significantly better
experience for a host of digital-TV services, both now and in the future," said
Neal Schnog, president of Uvision. "The flexibility of Microsoft TV IPG means we
can start with a better service now and build the interactive services of the
future over time."
The IPG is designed to work on more basic boxes, including Motorola Broadband
Communications Sector's "DCT-1000" and "DCT-2000."
In addition to scrolling and channel tuning, the guide also can support new
services such as video-on-demand.
