Osbournes Back for Season Three

7/08/2003 6:04 PM Eastern

MTV: Music Television executives told pundits at the Television Critics
Association summer press tour in Hollywood, Calif., Tuesday that it signed on
for a third season of The Osbournes.

The announcement, hailing 20 additional installments, came as somewhat of a
surprise given declining ratings and buzz over the Beverly Hills rock-family
reality saga.

The series’ third season is slated to bow sometime late in 2004.

While not quite the cultural cynosure of its first-season, when heavy metal
legend Ozzy Osbourne and his quirky family burst onto TV sets and the national
consciousness, The Osbournes is still pulling down huge numbers by MTV
and basic-cable standards.

Through 14 episodes in its second season, The Osbournes has averaged a
3.4 household rating and some 4 million viewers for premiere installments,
according to Nielsen Media Research data. It is also pulling a 4.1 average among
the network’s 12-34 target audience.

However, through the first four episodes of the second season’s second half,
beginning June 10, the reality series averaged a 3.1 among the 12-34
set.
