RealNetworks Tees Up LPGA Tourney7/10/2003 6:29 AM Eastern
RealNetworks Inc. is hoping for a hole in one, signing an agreement with the
Ladies Professional Golf Association to present the first-ever live
broadband-video coverage of a major professional-golf tournament online.
Under the deal, RealOne Sports will stream video for the 2003 BMO Financial
Group Canadian Women’s Open this weekend.
Internet mavens can go to www.realone.com/sports or www.LPGA.com to see the live streaming-video
Webcast free via a 150-kilobit-per-second feed. Subscribers to RealOne SuperPass
can tap the feed at an improved 300-kbps throughput.
It’s not the first time RNI has tapped women’s sports programming. The
streaming-media provider and content aggregator signed a similar agreement with
the Women’s National Basketball Association to broadcast live video of select
games for the 2003 season.
RNI has forged deals to stream audio and video with sports organizations
including Major League Baseball, the NBA, the National Association for Stock Car
Auto Racing and the PGA Tour.
