Arris Expects Strong 4Q

1/06/2004 4:48 AM Eastern

Buoyed by data and telephony sales, Arris Group Inc. said its fourth-quarter financials will exceed previously released guidance.

The company said it expects revenue of between $126 million-$129 million, compared with expectations of $105 million-$115 million. That will translate to lower net loss per share, in the 11 cent-16 cent range, Arris said, compared with its previous guidance of a loss of 12 cents-20 cents.

Chairman and CEO Bob Stanzione said the growth stemmed from some customers moving up orders from the first quarter of 2004 to the fourth quarter of 2003 due to competitive factors.

"We believe the growing market demand for high-speed data and voice over IP [Internet protocol], as well as the trend toward voice over IP, will continue to fuel future demand for Arris' innovative products," Stanzione said in a prepared statement.

In related VoIP news, Nortel Networks said it picked up a $17 million contract for VoIP service for Cable & Wireless in the Cayman Islands. C&W plans to merge its existing voice, data and Internet business onto one IP platform.
