MSO Execs Eye Accounting Standards

Top executives from all of the publicly traded cable companies plan to meet
Monday in New York to talk about a plan for coming up with a uniform way to
report operational information contained in financial reports.

While organizers wouldn't offer much information on the plan, Insight
Communications Co. Inc. CEO Michael Willner said it will address issues such as
how various MSOs break out subscriber counts and capital expenditures. 'We're
going to be a little less different,' he added.

Charter Communications Inc. has taken a lot of heat this year for its
practice of counting people who only subscribe to its cable-modem service as
basic-cable subscribers.

Charter spokesman Dave Andersen said he didn't know if the plan will affect
the way the MSO counts basic subscribers. But Charter is sending CEO Carl Vogel,
chief financial officer Kent Kalkwarf and controller Paul Martin to the meeting,
along with Andersen.

Monday's event is being organized by Credit Suisse First Boston analyst Lara Warner and Morgan Stanley Dean Witter & Co. analyst Rich
Bilotti, who are leaders in a group called Media and
Entertainment Analysts of New York.
