9/16/2002 4:57 AM Eastern

Arris is introducing a new compact design for its two-telephone-line
'Touchstone' telephony modem that carries an embedded multimedia-terminal
adapter.

The Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification 1.1-certified modem
delivers both telephony and high-speed tiered data service via an Ethernet
10/100 based-T Ethernet or universal-serial-bus port.

The modem is also available with built-in standby battery power ranging from
four to eight hours. Arris said several MSOs are currently trialing the
modem.

In other technology news, C-COR.net Corp. said it's closed on the purchase of
Philips Broadband Networks. The company said it expects net sales for the
quarter ending Sept. 27 to be $45 million, with a pro forma loss of between 15
cents and 20 cents per share.
