Path 1, Aurora Team Up on IP Video

6/04/2003 6:07 AM Eastern

Path 1 Network Technologies Inc. and Aurora Networks are teaming up to offer
a new gigabit-Ethernet product that can mix and match standard- and
high-definition video-on-demand content on multiple
quadrature-amplitude-modulation channels.

Path 1, which specializes in packet-based Internet-protocol video networks,
and Aurora, a player in the cable optical-communications-systems market, are
aiming the product to help cable operators migrate their video systems to
IP-based transmission schemes.

The jointly developed system will include the ability to transmit standard
and HD video, as well as Path 1's new "Music on Demand" product.

The deal involves Path 1's new integrated video-multiplexer gateway and QAM
modulator, which will debut soon and will be marketed by Aurora. The
software-driven design will allow operators to set multiple bit rates for
content and to mix streams in real-time.
