Mid-America Show Canceled

9/18/2001 6:26 AM Eastern

Citing a 'continuing avalanche of cancellations,' the board of the
Mid-America Cable Telecommunications Association scrapped its 44th annual trade
show, which was to begin this past Monday at a hotel in Kansas City, Mo.

The show, 'Strike Up the Broadband,' was to run through Wednesday. Although
it is a regional show, easily reachable by ground transportation, attendees were
obviously adverse to travel.

According to a recording at the Mid-America Association office in Lawrence,
Kan., room reservations at the Hyatt Regency Crowne Center have been
automatically canceled. According to the association's Web site, about 150 exhibitors were
to attend.

Cable operators in Iowa, Kansas, Missouri and Nebraska belong to the
association. The show typically attracts more than 1,000
people.
