Comcast Raises Download Speeds for Three Tiers Across Central Division

Comcast confirmed that is it raising the maximum download speeds on three internet speed tiers across its Central Division, which includes major markets such as Chicago, Detroit, Atlanta, Jacksonville, Nashville and Miami.

Among the changes, the download speed of Comcast’s Xfinity Blast! tier will rise from 75 Mbps to 100 Mbps, while Performance tier speeds more than double, from 25 Mbps to 60 Mbps, and the Performance Starter jumps from 10 Mbps to 25 Mbps.

Comcast said the speed increases are being rolled out in early November through mid-December. To get the higher speeds, customers on those tiers may need to restart their modems (manually or via the Xfinity My Account app).

The speed increases cover Comcast Central Division markets in the following states: Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina and Florida.

Comcast estimates that the speed increases apply to roughly 80% of its customers in that region, adding that the company has raised internet speeds 17 times in the past 16 years.  

Comcast, which views broadband as the “epicenter” of its business, ended Q3 with 23.54 million residential high-speed internet customers, adding 182,000 in the period.
