Showtime Renews 'Penny Dreadful'

Showtime has renewed Penny Dreadful for a second season. The network has ordered ten new episodes of the hour long drama, which was created, written and executive produced by John Logan.

According to Showtime, Penny Dreadful has drawn 4.8 million weekly viewers across all platforms, making the series the most watched new show ever on Showtime On Demand and Showtime Anytime.

“Picking up Penny Dreadful was one of the easiest decisions I’ve made. The series has had worldwide impact, drawing big, passionate audiences on both sides of the Atlantic, and more than any other show on our network has hit the bullseye with viewers who want to watch television in all the new ways that are available,” said David Nevins, President, Showtime Networks Inc., in a statement.

Production on the series’ second season will take place in Dublin, Ireland with an expected debut in 2015.

The series is currently airing its eight episode first season run, with the fifth episode scheduled for this Sunday at 10 p.m. ET/PT.
