Here’s a quick reminder that CableLabs and Multichannel News are getting together to host a Twitter chat on the topic of Ultra HD/4K on Thursday, Aug. 22 from 1 p.m. ET to 2 p.m. ET. So, the time is drawing near.
We hope you’ve plugged it into your schedule and plan to join the conversation or follow along using the #CableChat hashtag.
I’ll be moderating the chat using the Multichannel News handle (@MultiNews) and weighing in on my own via my personal handle (@thebauminator). I’ll be joined by CableLabs president and CEO Phil McKinney (@philmckinney), who will be taking questions and offering his insight on this important topic.
We’ve posted some suggested and tips and guidelines for the Twitter chat here.
And we have some topics and questions in mind. After a brief, baseline overview of Ultra HD-4K, we’ll get into what will drive consumer interest in 4K video, discuss recent Ultra HD TV shipment trends, and whether 4K is poised to become a mainstream driver or just another fad?
We’ll also cover the bandwidth and technology implications that cable operators are faced with as they develop their 4K strategies, and and get an update on CableLabs’ activity with the technology, and what are among its next steps.
And we’re already getting feedback on questions you want to have covered, including when MSOs here or abroad will offer UltraHD-quality streams.
