DirecTV Now: Happy Birthday to Us

DirecTV Now is offering new subs a $25 discount on the first month of service on any package as AT&T’s OTT TV service nears its one-year launch milestone.

Launched Nov. 30, 2016, DirecTV Now said new customers can take advantage of it by using the “BDAY2017” promo code.

The OTT service had about 800,000 subs by the end of Q3 2017 as it continues to scrap with a mix of other virtual MVPDs that includes PlayStation Vue, CenturyLink Stream, YouTube TV, fuboTV, and Sling TV.

DirecTV Now also noted that Pop is now available on the service to customers who take its “Just Right” package or above. It also added the following live, local broadcast TV feeds:

-NBC in Birmingham, Ala. (WVTM-13/Hearst Television)

-CBS in Oklahoma City, Okla. (KWTV/Griffin Communications)

-CBS in Tulsa, Okla. (KOTV/Griffin Communications)

With the latest additions, DirecTV Now said it offers 190 live local stations to more than 75% of U.S. households.

On the satellite side of the house, DirecTV subs with Genie HD DVRs (model HR44 or later) are starting to get an upgraded interface that will be rolled out over the next few months via an auto-software update.

The changes include a redesigned menu, including a section that highlights the customer’s most-watched networks and access to DVR recordings and VOD from a central location, and a reorganized Playlist for DVR recordings. The new UI also includes poster art and network logos.
