Eagle Demonstrates How Broadband Helps Students Soar

There’s nothing like seeing the joy on a student’s face as she walks her parents through a project she’s been working on at school, or the pride you see when another student explains how using dynamic digital content such as video and virtual experiments makes learning come alive for him.

At Eagle, we know it is imperative for students to have access to digital content through broadband Internet connections to make today’s classrooms more dynamic and engaging for students, as well as to help prepare students for success in tomorrow’s world – no matter the size or location of the community.

On April 30 Eagle Communications, in partnership with Schuyler Middle School and Discovery Education, the leading provider of digital content and professional development for K-12 classrooms, jointly presented a special community night to demonstrate how educators at Schuyler Middle School in Schuyler, Neb., are using the power of broadband to create dynamic digital learning environments that engage area students and prepare them for success in college and careers.

The special evening featured a student project showcase, hands-on activities and interactive exploration stations demonstrating how digital content can support the success of today’s tech-savvy learners.

The exploration stations focused on three areas – Math, Science, Social Studies – and featured virtual labs, opportunities to create videos, and fun, problem-solving experiments.

Attendees also had the opportunity to learn about Eagle Communication’s commitment to the Eagle Connect 2 Compete (C2C) program. By offering Internet service at a reduced price to low-income families, Connect2Compete is closing the digital divide, helping communities across the country benefit from Internet connectivity.

You may ask: Why focus on Schuyler, Nebraska? It’s simple, really: Eagle is committed to enhancing the quality of life in the communities we serve by providing services and leveraging partnerships to promote both community and family growth.

In this case, Discovery Education and Schuyler Middle School are doing important things together to empower students in the Schuyler community. They are doing this by providing teachers with digital resources that enhance curriculum, inspire students and improve learning outcomes in this community.

Through a school improvement grant administered by the Nebraska Department of Education, Schuyler Middle School is providing its students and educators with Discovery Education’s full range of digital services and customized professional development materials to accelerate student achievement. Students currently use Discovery Education’s Techbook series, a digital textbook solution for Math, Science and Social Studies, as well as Discovery Education Streaming Plus, a comprehensive digital library of more than 100,000 learning assets aligned to state and national curriculum standards. As district educators integrate these resources into classroom instruction, they are receiving extensive, customized professional development support from Discovery Education experts.

It’s an exciting time for this community and, here at Eagle Communications, we’re proud to support the work Discovery Education and Schuyler Middle School are doing to prepare students for college, careers and citizenship.
