As of Monday, Aug. 9, all of Harmonic’s approximately 460 Silicon Valley employees have relocated from Sunnyvale, Calif., to a new building about 3.5 miles to the east in San Jose (see Harmonic To Find The Way To San Jose).

The renovated three-story, 188,000-square-foot facility at 4300 North First Street used to be owned by Cisco Systems. Harmonic has signed a 10-year lease on the building from The Carlyle Group.

That’s about 56% as much space as its previous two buildings in Sunnyvale. According to Harmonic’s 2009 annual report, the company had 338,000 square feet under lease for its previous headquarters — roughly 178,000 square feet of which was “in excess of our requirements and we no longer occupy, do not intend to occupy, or have subleased the excess square footage.”

In May, Harmonic announced plans to acquire video-production and playout equipment vendor Omneon (see Harmonic To Acquire Omneon For $274 Million). Employees of Sunnyvale-based Omneon will move into the building sometime in Q4 following the closing of the acquisition, a Harmonic spokeswoman said.
