I'm Paying How Much?! AT&T Uses Female Robot to Cut Bill Shock

Publish date:

Perhaps you’ll be less cranky and resentful paying your TV, Internet and phone bill if the individual fees are soothingly narrated to you.

That’s the theory behind AT&T’s “video bill,” a new service for U-verse Voice, TV and Internet customers that delivers an auto-generated, customized video animation explaining each of the elements of their monthly statement.

“The video bill is not merely a generic overview, but a line-by-line visual and audio tour of your individual bill, emailed directly to you and also available when you log in to your myAT&T account online,” John Donovan, senior EVP of AT&T technology and network operations, wrote in a blog last week outlining the feature.

According to the telco, it has experienced fewer customer calls about billing issues after rolling out video bill. A survey showed 90% of U-verse customers find the videos helpful, Donovan said.

The concept for the service was developed by SundaySky, which presented the idea to execs at the AT&T Foundry development center in Ra’anana, Israel. The telco said it worked with AT&T’s information technology group to launch the feature within 12 months.
