Conservative groups are all bent out of shape over a gay kiss. Yeah, yeah. So what else is new?
We - by "we" I mean my extended family - loved it!
Here’s the delish smooch between one of daytime television’s hottest couples - As The World Turns gay duo Luke and Noah, or "Nuke" as the fans like to call them. Luke and Noah are also daytime television’s only gay couple.
Here’s the full clip of the scene. (Oh, I can just imagine the influx of slash fanfiction now. Well, there’s probably plenty of that already….)
Fans have been complaining forever that this couple is treated unfairly. Apparently, they’re not allowed to romp on screen like their hetero colleagues. Last February, fans organized an e-mail campaign to protest a perceived ban on gay kissing - a perception fueled by the Valentine’s Day ep, when every AtWT couple shared a kiss except Luke and Noah. So P&G Productions responded.
Kudos to Procter and Gamble Productions for greenlighting the gay french snog. Even my 80-year old Mom is cheering for the Nuke.
I can hardly believe we’re still debating gay kisses in the new millenium. But there you go.
Now under pressure from conservative groups, Procter and Gamble has set up a hot line to solicit feedback on the smooch. The American Family Association is upset that P&G is promoting french snogs among homosexuals.
Yes, P&G may have set up the hotline to deflect the right-wing. And yes, P&G is probably basking in this uptick of publicity. Nevertheless, it’s worth taking 15 seconds out of your day to praise P&G for their decision to support the Nuke.
I’m joining Huffington Post’s Kip Williams and other bloggers in encouraging readers to call P&G to say, yeah - enough is enough, alright. Enough with the PTC and the AFA.
P&G is being attacked by the American Family Association, whose founder and chairman, Donald Wildmon, this morning sent an e-mail message titled "Procter & Gamble promotes explicit open-mouth homosexual kissing" and asking his followers to bombard the company with complaints.
Ad Age further reports:
This week, P&G set up a second toll-free option asking callers to register support or criticism of the "story line" on "As the World Turns," from P&G Productions, which featured fairly passionate kisses between daytime TV’s only gay couple.
FYI: the reactionary Parents Television Council is a member of "Enough is Enough."
Again. That’s 1-800-331-3774
P.S. For all things Luke and Noah, here’s an extensive fan wiki called lukeandnoahfans.com.
ETA: oh, dear. Apologies to my readers. I had no idea that the filters on this blog were blocking innocuous words like homosexuality, heterosexuality, etc. etc. and then wiping out your comments when those words appear. I have an email into TPTB about this Draconian policy.
