10 More Markets to Do It Themselves

Do It Yourself will add 10 new markets for its local, syndicated programming
this fall.

The half-hour "DIY Local" shows -- take-downs from the one-hour Ask
DIY
program that regularly appears on the cable network -- have lined up
deals with stations in Houston; Seattle; Orlando, Fla.; Las Vegas; New Orleans
and Alexandria, La.; Portland, Ore.; Buffalo, N.Y.; Birmingham, Ala.; and
Norfolk, Va.

DIY executives said the show will also air on Texas Cable News, reaching 1.6
million households across that state.

Bearing such monikers as Ask Seattle, the syndicated fare features
local-market hosts attached to customized programming from the Scripps Networks
service.

With the addition of these new outlets, the syndicated series -- the second
season of which bows Sept. 13 -- will air in 50 markets and reach approximately
35% of U.S. households, according to Scripps.

While network officials argued that such repurposed programming builds
exposure for the 24-hour service, some MSO executives maintained that such
gambits devalue cable’s position of providing exclusive fare.
